Palestine relief mission begins humanitarian work


DERA ISMAEL KHAN: A team of doctors, members of the Red Crescent and the Civil Defense of Palestine who arrived in Pakistan on Saturday began their work in Dera Ismael Khan. Palestinian Ambassador Ahmed Rebai organized a media interaction with the visiting team to brief members of the Pakistani media on the objectives and mandate of the relief team in Palestine.

It can be mentioned here that Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Minister of Human Rights, Mr. Musawwar Abbas Shah, Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Middle East, Ambassador of Palestine and all the staff of the Embassy welcome the team Palestinians at Islamabad airport.

The Palestinian Disaster Response Team comprises 27 Palestinian professional members trained by the Ministry of Health, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society and Civil Defence. These actions will be part of the Palestinian people’s campaign “In loyalty to Pakistan…Jerusalem with you” which was launched by the Palestinian presidency last month for the victims of the floods in Pakistan.

Imad M. Zuhairi, Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates for the Director General of IR/PICA leads the team, which is to remain in Pakistan for eight days. The team will handle humanitarian and relief operations in Dera Ismael Khan.

Mr. Zuhairi told the newspaper that this is the first mission whose mandate is to carry out relief and humanitarian works while another mission will arrive soon which will deal with infrastructure works.
