ONCE thought of a far-fetched idea, many UK companies are now switching to four-day weeks in an effort to increase efficiency and attract top talent.
Atom Bank hit the headlines last month when it switched to a permanent four-day week without cutting wages by a dime.
Yet far from being a hippie move by the fintech company, Atom Bank has joined a group of fast-growing UK companies that are one day cutting their weekly routine.
A spokesperson for the Durham firm told us: “At Atom, healthy, happy colleagues = healthy, happy customers.
“It’s business as usual. “
Meanwhile, Leeds financial firm BWD introduced the four-day no-cut week after a “remarkable” three-month trial earlier this year.
And London-based software developers IriusRisk switched to a three-day weekend earlier this month, with CEO Cristina Bentue telling Forbes the company received ten new resumes within 24 hours of the news.
With traditional work patterns disrupted by the pandemic and the so-called ‘big resignation’ now leading around a quarter of Britons to consider quitting their jobs, some believe a four-day work week makes more sense than ever.
Here is a full list of UK companies offering their workers four-day weeks, according to the 4-day workweek campaign.
This Donegal printing software company employs 20 people, all of whom have worked four days a week since the start of 2020.
They hope the four-day week can help attract talented workers from Dublin and Belfast.

Bank of atoms
Durham-based fintech company Atom is considered the biggest UK employer to make the switch to date, with 430 employees on its payroll.

Autonomy is not recruiting at the moment, but is still looking for intern candidates to prepare for their doctorate.

The firm moved to a four-day week in 2019.
They’ve just hired a new sales manager, so keep an eye out for future vacancies.
Norwich Blink’s e-commerce company is a digital marketing agency.
No job offer is listed for the moment.
This Suffolk 3D metal casting company is one of the first to adopt, having introduced a four-day week in 2015.
Although CMG is not currently hiring, the company won the East England Federation of Small Businesses’ Wellbeing of the Year award in 2020, so be on the lookout.
Irish Giant’s Causeway Housing Association
This London-based non-profit organization provides temporary accommodation to mostly homeless young people in London.
Hard but rewarding work, the association hires a support team leader – and applications close in three days. Details are here.
One of the largest UK companies to switch to four-day weeks, recruiter Charlton Morris has 93 employees at its Leeds headquarters.

Scientists in Cardiff focused on geology and the environment, they take a three day weekend to enjoy the Earth while they are not studying it.

Evolved is hiring an Account Manager and an HR Assistant, offering £ 26,000 and £ 25,000 respectively.

There are no vacancies at the moment, but Geeks for Social Change just hired a new rail developer – so keep them on your radar.
The Glasgow cosmetics company offers its staff 32-hour, four-day weeks.
Small team of seven people, Gracefruit does not have a position available at the moment.
